Tengawa Hokkaido White Curry | Food Review

Two weeks ago, I was invited by J Passport for a food tasting at TENGAWA HOKKAIDO WHITE CURRY. Tengawa, is the the first an the only restaurant in Singapore that serve white curry dishes. Don’t take my word for it, just do a quick search on google, and all you would see it Tengawa popping up top on the list and a few pages afterwards. I had the honor to try two of their finest dishes.

According to the waitress at Tengawa, white curry as interesting as it sounds, is originated from Hokkaido, made from Hokkaido’s milk, it give a creamier base to the curry.

0-4 degree aged Iberiko Loin Katsu With Rice Set

We tried the Iberiko Loin Katsu With Rice set (Translate loosely to aged pork with rice).
Dippin the deep fried aged Iberico pork with their white curry is a heavenly combination. Soft tender meat and creamy smooth curry and a mouthful of Japanese white rice, no additional condiments needed. I am salivating as I type.

Aging is a process of letting the meat breakdown at a temperature near 0 degree celsius for a few weeks to tenderise the mean and saturating its flavour. Only the finest of meat can withstand the process of aging. You might not know, Iberiko (or Iberico) pork is the finest of all porks, meat from the world famous Iberian black pig. These free range pigs roam in a oak forest and take acorns as their primary diet. Iberico pork is said to be a healthier choice with less saturated fats. Perfect for people with higher cholesterol.

Spicy White Curry Ramen / Udon Set

I conveniently called the Japanese Laksa, of cause it is nothing like our local counterpart. The Spicy White Curry with a choice of either ramen noodles or Udon, is a different world on its own. A milder spice and a richer creamier curry flavoured broth, Spicy White Curry Ramen deserve more attention that it should have. The soup base is mixed with bonito broth and white curry, in combination, this ramen immediately teleported me to Hokkaido's seaside. A taste of Hokkaido like nothing else we can find here in Singapore.

I was grateful to have this opportunity to have a taste of heaven without needing to standing in line salivating and also thank you for the welcome card. But I bet it will soon be crowded with people as we speak. So hurry down to Tengawa to try the white curry! Once again, Thank you J Passport for giving me this opportunity for the food tasting.
