A-ONE KUT TEH REVIEW

Bringing back to the familiar traditional taste, A-One Bak Kut Teh has recently opened their
new outlet at Star Vista. The comfort ambience and family dining style experience of  local
restaurant proud to claim themselves as Singapore's First Claypot Bak Kut Teh Porridge.

Thank you for the media tasting hosting by Open Rice Singapore.

Pretty interesting menu cover by using the main concept of Pork, which present their
Signature of pork related dishes. Don't be SHIOK with the Pork cover (not everything with pork),
as on top of the typical local Bak Kut Teh, they also serve local delicacy such as
Yong Tau Foo, Braised Platter and Assorted Vegetables.

Minced Meat with Meat Ball Porridge ($9.90 )
According to historical, Teochew people are knowns for Teochew Porridge.
It is the same as what the porridge being served at A-One : Well Known Teochew Porridge.
The porridge was really great and peppery which more to a dry, creamy concept instead of watery.
Literally melts in my mouth! The savoury porridge is using a Bak Kut Teh stock and a mix of
white pepper to prepare its delicacy. Cooking time takes about 45 mins thru a high pressure cooker.

Pork Ribs Porridge ( $10.90)
Cooking concept is the same as Minced Meat Porridge. Using a white pearl rice and
bak kut teh stock with a good combination of pepper, garlic, and spices.
So, what makes this porridge different from the above : Of coz ! definitely it is using a pork ribs
to prepare but this porridge is more watery not as rich as minced meat porridge. Ribs were quite tender
and fresh but i still prefer a dry rich porridge so that i could taste the delicacy of porridge.

After tasting the Porridge, no doubt to say that A-One Claypot Porridge was really
"SHIOK" ! Recommended to eat the porridge while it was still hot.
The peppery stock is definitely melts your delight.

Assorted Fruit & Flower Tea ($7.90 )
A wonderful floral fragrance of non sugar tea. The dried fruits and flowers are brewed into the pot,
giving a sweet taste of tea though it is sugarless. Recommended to its special drink it.
The tea has Chinese Hawthorn tea, which has slight sourich touch that very good for digestion.

Thank You A-One Bak Kut Teh to give a surprise drink ! I was invited for the Food Tasting

Pork Ribs Soup ($10.90)
Same as porridge, The soup, the Bak Kut Teh is also peppery. But the ingredients they use
different from Bak Kut Teh stock that served in porridge. The dishes is cooked in complex
broth of herbal and spices, with a pleasant thick dark brown broth color as what a tradition
delicay Bak Kut Teh was introduced. Fire was lighted up while ready to serve

The peppery soup was nice to drink. For those who love the typical flavour of Teochew-style
Bak Kut Teh, you will like it. The good combination of pepper, garlic, and pork ribs makes
the soup fragrant and tasty.  But it was sad to say that the meat was out of expectation.
Bak Kut Teh meat is supposed to be tender, isn't it ? It would be better if the pork ribs is tender.

Well ! The best time to eat Bak Kut Teh is always to have You Tiao (fried dough) there !

Pig's Organ Soup ($9.90)
Using a Bak Kut Teh Peppery soup, same as pork ribs soup it needs 3 hours to done the broth.
In the early morning like 6 am / 7 am  they already prepared to cook the broth to A-One standard.

The fire was lighted up on spot on the table. Doesn't it looks like steamboat feast ?? LOL.
Porky broth comes with liver, pig intestines, and pork slices. I don't eat liver so i am sorry to
exclude out liver taste. Pig intestines were the most liked ! It is fresh, tender and meaty to eat.

Dry Bak Kut Teh Chicken Cubes ($12.90)
Bak Kut Teh also has chicken ?? !!
A-One offered a Tender Chicken Bak Kut Teh Cubes while preserving the consistency
cooking concept of using Bak Kut Teh stock. Premium stock that being cooked together with
dark soya sauce, dry chili and slices of cuttlefish makes the sweet, mild spicy gravy simmered
into the dishes. They could improve on its gravy to make it more characteristics as i found
that it is a bit too watery. Usually, the creamier the gravy it, the nicer it is.

Ampang Yong Tau Foo
Do you know what is Ampang ? YDoes it sounds familiar ?
If you have visited Malaysia, KL guess you know Ampang is one of the LRT station.

It comes with 3 size : Small ( $9.90 ) ; Medium ($14.90 ) ; Big ($18.90).
Porridge and Bat Kut Teh are no doubt to try, but i also heard from people say that :
"Should try the Ampang Yong Tau Foo".
I have never tried any of the Ampang taste. But as far as my first time trying, the home-made Ampang sauce
is well served with the Yong Tau Foo dishes - beancurd skin, fried wanton, crispy tau foo, brinjal,
tau pok, lady’s finger, bitter ground and tonnes of kangkong at the bottom drenched in Ampang gravy.

Braised Platter ( $ 14.90 )
Perfect braised platter of a tender bite. These dishes consist of pork, bean-curd skin,
bean-curd puff, egg, and peanuts which have been simmered in a dark light soya
sauce throughout a herbs ingredients.

Assorted Vegetables in Sambal Sauce ( $10.90)
The assortment of greens -  lady's finger, long bean, egg plant, sweet pea, big ikan bilis are stirred
with fried mince meat and sambal sauce. Saying that it is cooked with a sambal sauce which supposed
to be oh well the fragrant! but the sambal sauce was slightly lighter and not spicy .
